Happy Birthday Mr. Baker

Despite all the work going on around us, we managed to have a little fun last week when Phil Baker from Maine stopped by with his family. He and his wife come to visit us every February and this year he celebrated his 80th birthday!

Due to all the excitement going on at The Reefs, Mr. Baker had to stay at another hotel on the western end of the island. But we arranged a little surprise for him when he stopped by to say hello! We had some of his favourite staff members stop by and Edwina baked him a carrot cake. Those joining in the surprise where Hugh Peacock (maintenance), Tony De Frias (grounds), Mervin (bells), Lena Mae (Food & Beverage), along with Ben Tutt, Chris Johnson, Barb Jones and Perry Robinson. The surprise was very much appreciated, and on such a beautiful day! Plus, we will do anything to eat cake, and we have not had one around for a while!

Ferry Ride - Gotta Take One!

It is not often I get to break my routine of heading to Southampton and The Reefs each morning, but the past few days I had to head into Hamilton for a class. Like any city, morning traffic in Bermuda is quite an ordeal, so I decided to take the ferry in. As a kid I rode the ferry to and from school and it always made for a great start to the day. There is nothing more enjoyable than a ferry ride on a beautiful day in Bermuda – even rainy days are kind of fun!

Things have changed a little since my childhood – there are more passengers and the trip is shorter on the larger ferries. But the fun of being on the ferry never goes away. Lots of fresh air, a quick trip across the harbour, and time to chat with some friends. The ferry also gives a good view of the impressive homes in Bermuda and a chance to see other parts of the island.

So, on your next visit take a ferry ride. Most guests take the dockyard route but you can get on the ferry in Hamilton and take the entire route!
