Farewell to the Queen
on
3/30/2007
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Sylvia. Sylvia is the latest recipient of the Queen’s Certificate and Badge of Honor for services to the hospitality sector. In her years at the Reefs, Sylvia been a waitress, assistant maitre'd and maitre'd. At her retirement, Sylvia was our longest term employee— having working at the hotel for over 55 years!
The Reefs is the success it is today because of the dedication of employees like Sylvia, and the rest of the Bean family, four of whom have worked at The Reefs. Taking Sylvia’s place as the longest term employee is her sister, Brenda Bean.
Combined, the Bean family has dedicated 132 years of love and hospitality to The Reefs. A warm thanks goes out to each of the Beans!
Please feel free to leave your comments here for Sylvia. We'll make sure to pass them along!

Sylvia,
ReplyDeleteYou have always made our past 15 visits to The Reefs extra special!
We will surely miss you this September but wish you every happiness in your well-deserved retirement.
Fondly,
Jerry and Judy Champness
I was so sorry to see Sylvia retire. She was the first person who took care of me and my family when we began our annual visits all the way back in 1959. Now nearly 50 years later, when I bring my grown son's and their wives to The Reef's for our annual visit, something very special will be missing. We never went to afternoon tea, until Sylvia moved into that role. All the Crawford's will miss you very very much Sylvia. But we will find you at home.Peter Crawford and the entire family from Marblehead.
ReplyDeleteOur family always looked forward to tea time with Sylvia. She always made sure there were tuna sandwiches for our youngest, "picky eater" daughter. We will miss her so much when we return to the Reef's this year. She is just wonderful. Thank you Sylvia!
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I have been going to The Reefs since 1973 and always enjoyed talking with Sylvia. We will miss her and we wish her good health.

In our 15 times at the Reefs, we were always sure to get a warm reception from Sylvia and Brenda. It wont seem the same without Sylvia, but we wish you the very best and a long and happy retirement. Now you can visit Jersey City any time you want.
ReplyDeleteSylvia:
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your retirement and an unprecedented continuous term of service. We had the pleasure of meeting you during our stay last June.
Enjoy your retirement.
Started our 43 year marriage honeymooning at The Reefs. Have been back 5 times since. Remember Sylvia well. A terrific person and huge asset to The Reefs. Will miss her. We wish her well!
ReplyDeleteThough my wife and I have not stayed at the Reefs for some time we will always remember the warm smile and personel greetings given by Sylvia. We will miss you but wish you a long and happy retirement.

Sylvia welcomed my husband and I to the Reefs on our honeymoon in 1954, was there with a hearty "wecome back" each time we returned including our 25th anniversary in 1979 with all our children, 1992 with the grandchildren and the final time my husband returned in 2001.
ReplyDeleteShe is such an integral part of The Reefs and their warm hospitality.
May she enjoy years of health and happiness in her retirement. She will be missed!
Fond regards,
Rosemary Fox
My husband and I were first welcomed to the Reefs by Sylvia on our honeymoon in 1954. We returned many times including visits with our children on our 25th anniversary in 1979, with our grandchildren in 1992, and my husbands final visit in 2001. Each time she was there with her big smile and "welcome back" greeting. She will be missed by all our family.
ReplyDeleteI hope she has many years of health and happiness in her well deserved retirement.
Thank You!
Rosemary Fox
