As one of the few staff members at the hotel over the closure I am feeling a little lonely. I am normally surrounded by so many more people – our wonderful guests! I miss them all, especially today which is a spectacular January day here in Bermuda! The beautiful weather always makes everyone so happy and today would be one of those days for sure. The pool is still sparkling and the surf is a beautiful turquoise color washing up on the beach. I even spotted a few fish that seemed very happy to have the beach to themselves. What I'd do for a phone call about a broken television or a last-minute dinner reservation!
Work at the hotel is well underway and the project next door is moving a head at a good pace. The hotel projects are changing daily. The first change you will see is at the front desk – the old front desk will be replaced with two sit-down desks and a separate one for the concierge. It may not be completed yet but I am sure excited of what is to come! The lobby bathrooms are being renovated with new tile, toilets and faucets and the ladies room is being expanded.
The most exciting improvement is the lounge. Don't worry, the bar is not moving (for those who like their bar stools), but the lounge is being pushed out to the terrace and there will be an official area for the bands to set up just to the right of the fireplace nearest the bar. There will even be a dance area as well. The staff is excited about not having to move furniture anymore! We have much to do, but we will be ready to welcome guests back on April 1st
Over the holidays I did get to catch up with some of our missing guests who were still in Bermuda for the New Year. I have to say I went into 'enemy' territory visiting the Pagnotta's at Pompano and then Mort and Judy Reisfield and Evelyn Pollock and her merry group of friends at Elbow Beach. It was so good to catch up with everyone and see everyone enjoying Bermuda. I even dragged along my daughter Grace (now 9 months) who enjoyed taking a good look at everyone. I hope everyone had a great New Year and I’ll see you all in April!
