What was once a Category 4 hurricane with a projected path directly toward our tiny island, Hurricane Igor thankfully brought much less damage than was anticipated. Igor was downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane early Sunday morning but still brought howling winds, horizontal rain and huge waves.
It was quite a sight to see the waves crashing over Caso's Point and
Coconuts restaurant. As Igor moved closer to Bermuda, we moved all guests to Club residences.
Since Bermuda had several days notice of the storm's arrival, everyone was well prepared for the worst.
There was some erosion of our beach, we lost a few
railings and deck
planking at Coconuts and Caso's Point, and have some minor damage at the
portico entrance.
Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal broadcasted live directly from a residence at The Reefs Club, keeping everyone informed of the latest news on Hurricane Igor.
Watch his reports on the Fox News website:
While the worst is behind us, much of the island is still without power. But most importantly, Igor was nowhere near as destructive as Fabian in 2003 and police are reporting no serious injuries or fatalities. Something we are all thankful for.
In the coming days, our team will be working hard to restore The Reefs back to its original state so that you, our guests, can come enjoy beautiful Bermuda.
