This year, the island's iconic "Bermuda Shorts" and the incomparable Reefs Hotel celebrated their 60th Anniversaries. The Reefs marked the occasion on October 24th with a special anniversary party by inviting back old familiar faces to join in the festivities. Along with hotel guests, many of them repeaters, we welcomed all hotel staff who have been with us more than 10 years and helped to make The Reefs what it is today.
If you are a Reefs Repeater who receives our Smart Casual newsletter you'll find it familiar the way we recognize friends of The Reefs.
Barb Jones (14 years) met Sylvia Bean (54 years), Brenda Bean (46 years and counting) who is still with the hotel, Eunice Pitt (30+ years), and Lucille Doars (16 years) at the gate as they came to join the party. They all looked fantastic and it was so good to see them.
Patricia Alison from reservations (22 years) also joined guests and staff in remembering the many adventures! Debbie MacMillan (9 years) stopped by fresh from a holiday at golf school in Florida. She celebrated by catching up with many of the repeaters at the party, especially old golfing buddies Bob and Barbara Petersen from Fairfax, VA (38 visits).
Wendell Simons (30+ years) appeared with his big smile and immediately ran into Stephen Pisani and his wife Renea (8 visits). There were some great memories discussed as Stephen's father, Dennis, was a great instigator and enjoyed shooting water balloons from the beach to the terrace causing lots of fun and chaos!
Graham Mawer, former Food and Beverage, (3 years) and a very familiar face in the dining room, Roger Burrows (30+ years), showed up for the festivities. We had hoped that Slippery and Joan would be able to join us as well, but they won't be back in Bermuda until January.
It also was fun to have Scotty (Charles Scott) (36 years) with us and some guests and staff were lucky enough to get a big hug from him. Scotty got to reminisce with repeaters and enjoyed seeing everyone, especially Dan and Chris Holmes from Port Townsend, WA (34 visits) and Ken and Perrie Drysdale from Wilmington, DE (29 visits). Hugh Peacock, Head of Maintenance and Chief Food Taster (25 years), also caught up with Scotty.
Mervin (29 years), Lena Mae (26 years), Carol Ann (19 years), Edwina (19 years) and others joined us and Dean Smith's 60th Anniversary cocktail was a huge hit! Several guests weren't too sure about drinking a green drink, but it sure was tasty!
Mr. Tutt (1.5 years) welcomed everyone and presented all with a 60th Anniversary pin and poster. If you missed getting one please let us know as we have a few left.
The Reefs has been celebrating its 60th year with a special "Anniversary Package" - guests who stay 5 nights get their 6th night free. To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the "Bermuda Shorts," those guests who checked in wearing Bermuda shorts got a free pair of socks. We had such a run on the socks one day that we ran out! There are lots of cute knees out there!
