Our VIP Nominees

Anika and Sabrina, two of our VIP nominees

The Reefs is proud to have 5 nominees in the 2011 Belco VIP Awards!
  • Sabrina Smith — Reservations Manager. Sabrina has been working at The Reefs for 4 years now. She loves welcoming guests and they put a smile on her face to see them enjoying Bermuda.
  • Anika Solomon-Trott — Front Office Manager. Anika joined The Reefs in May of 2010 as the Front Office Manager and brings with her more than 12 years experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Claudia Hansa — Food & Beverage. Claudia has been at The Reefs for 2 years. She was named Employee of the Year at The Reefs for 2010 for her positive attitude and stellar comments from hotel guests.
  • Winfield Todd — Bellman
  • Irven Simmons — Taxi driver. Irven has been working closely with The Reefs for more than 30 years. He loves getting to know hotel guests and talking with them on the 30 minute ride from the airport.
There are only three nominees in each of 18 categories for the VIP Awards. Last year The Reefs had three employees nominated and each were named the winners for their categories. Let's hope our luck continues this year!

About the VIP Awards

The Visitor Industry Partnership’s Lifetime Achievement Award is presented every year to an outstanding individual to honor a lifetime of achievement and contribution to the hospitality industry. The recipient is recognized by a selection committee for his or her accomplishments, dedication and commitment to the industry. This award is to provide special recognition to this individual and the wonderful efforts they have undertaken. The recipient embodies and exemplifies the true spirit of hospitality.

The Reefs' VIP's

Our staff always strive to make your experience everything you could imagine. Therefore we are proud to recognize that three of our very own staff members were awarded VIP awards in the recent Bermuda Department of Tourism Hospitality Awards.

A black tie awards ceremony was held at the Fairmont Southampton on April 24 where all the nominees and hotel management gathered to celebrate the awards.
Marlene Durham, Best Housekeeper
Edwina Johnson, Best Waitress
Kenisha Douglas, Best Front Desk

This year at the ceremony we were all so excited to have had Kenisha and Edwina be recognized. When the Housekeeping category came up, we didn’t think that The Reefs would be lucky enough to have another winner. Marlene has been nominated twice before but someone else has always taken away the award. But sure enough, Marlene received the VIP award for category!

Please join us in congratulating our award-winning staff, and everyone else at The Reefs Hotel & Club who has helped to make your experiences so memorable.

VIP Excellence Awards

We are pleased to announce that our very own Mervin Caesar was the winner for the Best of the Best for Bellman in the VIP Excellence Awards. The Awards banquet took place April 12 at the Fairmont Southampton.

When a finalist in each category was announced (there were 3 finalists for each category) a short video was played for each. Mervin mentioned his love of what he does and also mentioned how he'd like to see more young Bermudians in the hospitality industry!

Mervin has been with The Reefs for 30 years. He started as a houseman and became a bellman 8 years ago. For winning the VIP Bellman award, Mervin received a gold VIP pin and a 7 night cruise for two to the Caribbean.

We also would like to congratulate our other three very deserving nominees – Stacy Haller (Administration), Kevin Shirley (Maintenance) and Marlene Durham (Housekeeping).

Congratulations to our VIP Nominees!

The Reefs is excited to report that we have 4 finalists for the Annual VIP Excellence Awards. This awards ceremony recognizes the individuals who go above and beyond to give visitors to Bermuda a truly memorable experience. The awards ceremony will be held at the Fairmont Southampton on 12 April.

The 4 finalists from The Reefs are Marlene Durham from housekeeping (also our Employee of the Year), Mervin Ceasar (bellman), Kevin Shirley (maintenance) and Stacy Haller (reservations). All finalists will receive a Certificate of Excellence. Congratulations to them all!

Staff can be nominated in 18 categories. The winner from each category will win a trip, an 18K Gold VIP Excellence Award pin and then be eligible for the VIP person of the year (Wyman Lindsay, Restaurant Manager was a winner of this) which brings with it a money market fund of $20,000!

So we will all be dusting off our top hats and sequins and getting ready for the gala event! For more information on the VIP awards please see www.vip.bm.
